Around the Pond: 5000 km on the North Sea Cycle Route

I'm back in familiar territory. Parallel to the highway B4 I ride from Melbeck over Bienenbüttel to Bad Bevensen, where I make a breakfast break. After that I continue towards Uelzen, mostly on the same roads I took 3 months ago.

I stop at Jan Codes, my bicycle dealer to say hello. He has been following my trip on my travel blog. He tries to adjust the front brakes to get rid of the squeaking, but only 20 km further the noise returns.

I call my parents, and my friends who have been looking after the house. They tell me to call again an hour before I arrive, because a reporter from the Allerzeitung wants to be there when I arrive.

I continue towards home, on the same roads I took on my first day. I'm too tired to try new routes. The weather is overcast, in the afternoon it begins to rain.

As I pass Knesebeck I call home again. The rain is getting stronger, I change into my rain gear. The last 20 km I ride in the rain.

At home a surprise: my parents have come from Remscheid, and are awaiting me together with friends an neighbors.
