Around the Pond: 5000 km on the North Sea Cycle Route

From Wilhelmshaven the North Sea Cycle Route runs around the Jade Busen, a large bay directly to the south. I take a shortcut: A ferry takes me from Wilhelmshaven to Eckwarderhörne on the other side. This saves me roughly 80 km, about one day of travel. Of course this is not in the spirit of traveling by bike, but after 90 days I want to get home. I'd just like to complete the 5000km mark.

From Eckwarderhörne the route again follows the dike. At noon I cross the river Weser by ferry, putting me in the middle of Bremerhaven. There is a big fair in the harbour. I have to push my bike, and have to wait for half an hour for a ship lock to close and lower the bridge to let through the visitors of the fair. I'd like to take a break, explore the fair and get something to eat, but I really don't want to leave my bike with all my luggage unattended in this crowd.

After I finally leave the fair behind me the NSCR takes me through the large harbour of Bremerhaven. Very interesting, but since it is Sunday there is no activity. After that is it again endless kilometers along the dike.

My destination for today is Cuxhaven. I find a nice camping site in Duhnen, a small town 5 km short of Cuxhaven. After pitching my tent I cycle into town to get something to eat and watch the tourists.
