Around noon I cycle into Varberg. I get some money at an ATM ("Bankomat"), then start looking for maps in a book shop. I'm a bit spoiled by the nice cycle maps I bought in Denmark. Nothing as good can be found here. I finally get a topographic map. It is a very nice map, as such, but I am missing clear markings of the cycle routes. I later discover that the routes are on the map, just hard to see, and not labeled. The map I buy will bring me as far as Göteborg.
I ride down to the harbour, and explore the castle. On the castle wall I sit in the grass for a few minutes, enjoying the view. Here I must have picked up a tick, which I discover later that evening. I must be careful about ticks here. A bit north of here I will pass through the only area on this trip, where ticks are carrying tick-born encephalitis.
