Around the Pond: 5000 km on the North Sea Cycle Route

Since the first ferry from Delfzijl to Emden leaves at 1 p.m. I have some time to spend. After checking out of the hotel I still have two hours until the ferry arrives. First thing I get a ticket for the ferry. Probably it would have been possible to get one on the ship, but at least I'm sure I got one.

I spend the next hour and a half in the Delfzijl Museum, a curious conglomeration of Aquarium, Archaeology, Geology, Seafaring, Art and the history of Delfzijl. Very interesting, on can spend some time in here.

Half an hour before the arrival of the ferry I ride to the harbour. Here I have a nice chat with some other cyclists waiting for the ship.

The crossing of the Ems to Emden takes about one hour. An interesting trip, but due to cold, windy weather I spend the last half below deck.

In Emden I drive directly to the Hotel Goldener Adler. The hotel is located in the center, with a nice view on the harbour. My bike is locked away in the cellar.

Since it is still early I explore the town, buy some books to read on the last few days, and get a pre-paid packet at a postal store to send home some stuff. Not that weight is important - I don't expect any significant hills on the last 600 km, but I accumulated so much stuff that I run out of space in my bags.
